No umpiring needed here. I see the point of the minority positions, but I prefer attacking the PH. First off, it puts rout points in the bank that Pyrrhus can do nothing about. The Epirotes are guaranteed to get the next Activation, and as a result you might face a reformed line if you don't kill them now. Second, although there are many vulnerable Roman units which the Epirotes can eliminate, the exchange ratio (14 RPs/PH vs 4-6 RPs/LG) is about as favorable as it gets. So let's strike while the iron is hot:
Routing, not shown: AS/VII LG: c,h. AS/XIV RC: a
In Pursuit: AS/XV Ex RC (w/ 4 hits)
Choosing between Magnus and Cassius might not seem like a big deal, but Cassius has a slight advantage, as he can use his command range to allow the cohort next to the routed PH to shock attack (remember, this doesn't count against the IO limit).
One PH inevitably survives its Pre-Shock dieroll, but the attacking cohort takes it out right smartly anyhow.
In one activation, the Romans have eliminated 56(!) rout points, enough to push the Epirotes over their limit.
Current Rout Point totals:
| Side | Current | Limit | Pct | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Romans | 144 | 185 | 78% | |
| Epirotes | 129 | 120 | 108% |
Incredibly, at this point the voters mentioning Momentum were unanimous is saying don't try for Momentum. Here I part ways with them; the Epirotes are going to get the next activation anyway, so why not try for Momentum? The major damage has already been done. But I bow to the will of the majority.
Since victory isn't declared until the end of the turn, Pyrrhus can yet pull out a victory (Pyrrhic, of course) if he can eliminate a bunch of Romans....
Assuming he takes no more losses, he's got to eliminate 51 RPs worth of units to win. Sixteen Roman RPs (listed as "Routing, not shown" on the graphic above) will rout off the map at the end of the turn. So Pyrrhus has to kill 35 RPs worth of Romans more than he loses during the rest of the turn to win.
So what should the Epirotes do? Either Socrates, Philocles, or Milon is up next, unless Pyrrhus wants to try an Active Player Trump. Or should the Epirotes just concede at this point? (Let's not spent the next few months confirming an obvious conclusion, if you think that it is so.)
