Pitames's Activation

Turn 10: Pitames's Activation

A very exciting activation. I had to do a lot of rules looking up and headscratching.

Pitames heads south and has the Saracens fire at Simmias. The Saracens roll the dreaded '0' and even with the +1 drm for firing into the wind manage to rout the Huns (though Simmias himself is unhurt). Smelling blood, the Saracens rush to deliver the coup de grace. It was then that I realized that Simmas can't OW, as he's no faster than the Saracens. Uh oh....

With his last two orders, Pitames orders two cavalry units to attack the brave HI that ventured across the trench.

Pre-Shock checks eliminate the routed Huns and put two hits on each of the cavalry units attacking the HI.

The shock results are 2(3), which with Attacker Superiority (for attacking the flank) are not quite enough to rout the HI. However, the HI and the Saracens are in enemy ZOC and one hit away from their TQ, and both of them fail their collapse TQ check (dr '8' for the unhappy Byzantines).

The Saracens can run for home, but the Byzantines are forced along the trench line, through their own CAT (+1 hit). (Remember, the Saracen doesn't advance until all shock is complete).

Then the remaining HC and LC advance. I had to look up what happens to leaders when enemy units enter their hex, as I'd never used that rule before! Unluckily for Simmias, the dieroll is 3, and he's eliminated.

The only bright spot for the Byzantines is their Reaction Fire as the Saracen advances, as dr '0' inflicts two hits.

Current Rout Point totals:
Side Current Limit Pct
Persians 107 109 98%
Byzantines 82 102 80%

Over to Bouzes.
