Books:
This book has a selection of toy pictures from all the big toy manufactuers, with an extensive selection on Fisher Price, both for little people and their earlier push toys. A great book to go to for reference when I am checking on a toy's piece count or number, and it should be readily available in your local bookstore. As a bonus, it also has pictures of a lot of other fun old toys, such as Kenner Star Wars toys, and Playskool toys. Highly recommended.

My new favorite book, an absolute MUST-HAVE!! No kidding! The actual printing of the book is poor quality, that is, it has a plastic spiral binding, and all the pictures are in black and white, but I still think it's great! The author's goal was to include every Fisher Price toy from '31-'90, and they've done a wonderful job with the little people. Every little people set that I know of is listed, and most listings have a picture of the set loose, as well as in its box. Also, when I say every set, I mean even little sets, say just a group of people in a blister, or just a police car and driver in a tiny box. It's great for me to see all these sets that I never knew existed. For example, I always suspected that, because I've found so many Sesame Street people, that they could be purchased seperately from the clubhouse or the "townhouse". This book has that set listed, everyone who came with it listed (which was everyone in the "townhouse" BTW), and a picture of that set in its box! You just can't get much better than that! Also, if a set came with a different set of accessories one year, that's listed as well. Further, a rough price is included for each set. I could go on and on about this book, but I hope you get the idea.
The only thing is, I don't think this book will be available in stores. There's an order form in the back of the book, and here's what it (basically) says: Print your name, phone, and address on a piece of paper, and the fact that you are wanting to purchase "A Pictoral Guide to the More Popular Toys: Fisher Price Toys 1931-1990" by Brad Cassity and Gary Combs. Write a check or money order for $20 per book plus $3 shipping for one book, add $.30 shipping for each additional book. "Canadian customers add $3 postage per book." Send your check or money order in US funds only and all the information to "Brad Cassity, 1350 Stanwix, Toledo, OH 43614". Please note that I cannot take responsibility for this transaction, if you have any problems contacting him, etc., since I don't know either of these people, and I have yet to meet either one. You order at your own risk..
If you live in the DC Metro Area, you can probably obtain a copy of this book at a store called "Gaslight Crafts" on Berwyn Ave off Rt.1 in College Park, MD. That's a great store, with a lot of Fisher Price sets for sale. Feel free to email me for more specific directions to that store. Again, this is a great book, and although the pictures are black and white, I was more than happy to shell out $20 bucks for it. I honestly don't think you'll be dissapointed with this book, whether you collect Little People, Adventure People, or any other Fisher Price line. The only thing the book is a little short on is pictures of some of the older pull toys, but if that's your thing, you should really get the Murray and Fox book.
As you might guess from the title, this book is more helpful for collectors of early Fisher Price toys than collectors of later lines such as little people. The last years of the book, however, give a great insight into the origins of little people, from those boys on the safety school bus to the amusement park style people, to those "modern" style people. The book has a great selection of pictures from these early sets. Where else can you see an amusement park complete with mat? The first part of the book has a nice history of the Fisher-Price corporation. The authors themselves are one time employees of the company. In my opinion, this is a must have book for anyone who collects the early pull toys.

The book that, nearly single-handedly, brought the downfall of Little People civilization as we know it. This book (from the author of Toys That Don't Care,) criticizesthe safety of many children's toys, with particular emphasis placed on Little People (they are prominently displayed on the cover). This book relates, through graphic vingettes, the choking hazard that Little People pose. These stories, and a lawsuit or two, resulted in Fisher-Price pulling the "slim style" Little People line from the market. A black day for us all. Choking Hazard? Certainly. Improper labeling? Probably. But why pull a great toy like this when a warning label would do?
