This is a push toy with a long handle, similar in design to
the famous "corn popper". However, it is not little balls
that do the popping here, but actual little people. The
base, on two wheels, is made of both wood and plastic,
and on the top of the base sits a clear plastic shell,
partioned into three sections. One little person is
imprisoned in each chamber, forced to endure a life of
endless hopping, probably becuase they have committed
some unspeakable act against Little People society.
Luckily my boyfriend was able to obtain for me a Happy Hopper
which has a broken "hopping" mechanism, so that my
little prisoners only waddle slightly when the toy
is pushed. Makes me sleep easier at night! My specimen
has a blue wooden handle, with bright orange ball
"finial" and matching orange wheels. The base is yellow
plastic and litho covered wood. The prisoners are all
wood, one orange girl with yellow hair, one aqua colored
boy with bright orange farmer hat, and one yellow
collared dog, the older kind with no body ridges. My
hopper is dated 1969, and I would assume other later
models have different color schemes and more plastic
elements.
