Crab Mola

This is one of my favorite molas. It has great graphic style to it and the contrast between the neon green top fabric and the navy blue under fabric gives it a powerful impact. The stitching is also magnificent. The maze like pattern around the crab signifies that the stitcher is from a different part of the San Blas Islands, from those molas which are made with vertical or horizontal slashes surrounding them, or the ones with decorative triangles. This piece measures 9 3/4 inches by 8 inches. I seem to be saving it for a special use and haven’t decided what yet.
