Our Thirty-Year Reunion at EM VEE HI

by Beth (Barry) Kelley '72

It's hard to believe
Thirty years have gone by
For me the reunion was great
With this poem I'll tell you why

I really don't feel any older
And I could tell from the ones who came
By listening and talking to them
That they felt the same

Definitely, yes most have changed
With more wrinkles and hair that's lighter
And there are even some
That their clothes fit a little tighter

But all we really had to do
Was look into their eyes
And we did see our former friends
That we cannot deny

While talking with a classmate
She confessed an insecurity,
She wondered if she should even come
She thought, "Will anyone remember me?"

There was no need for her to worry
Because our memory didn't fade
But even if she wasn't remembered
A new friend we would have made

The best thing about reunions is
If you weren't friends in '72
The reunion was an opportunity
For friendships to renew

Let's not forget our friends
From our lives they did depart
They never will be forgotten
Because we hold them in our heart

The tour of the school meant so much to me
And was just too much to believe
The memories it brought back me
I just didn't want to leave!

Standing in the cafeteria,
The gym, and the library too
Was just so overwhelming
But it's something I needed to do

Walking into the auditorium
Was like stepping back thirty years
So much of the school was left unchanged
It was hard to hide the tears

For years I've passed by The Plant
And have just longed to venture in
But knew it wasn't possible
Much to my chagrin

So thanks for making this
A reality for us, Janine
You gave me my dream and more memories
That I now again have seen

So let's all stay in touch
Now, it's so easy to do
With e-mails, and phone calls,
And mini reunions too!

So Thank-you, Thank-you Reunion Committee
I wish I could say more
But if I do I have the feeling
You'll be showing me the door!

So now let's keep the ball rolling
And have some more fun
Let's start making plans
To have another one!
