Interior
When I finally finish this project I want to be able to say
" I restored/rebuilt this car" and literally mean it. I don't
want it to translate to I sent this to this shop, that to another shop,
a guy I was refereed to rebuilt .... hey I'm funny like that.
Soooo, I figured I'd try my hand at upholstery. If it doesn't work
out I only wasted time. I would need to purchase a complete interior anyway.
It's not that clear but look at the panel where the heater,
choke, fan controls go. I have some of the Rosewood veneer leftover from the dashboard so I decided to dress things up a bit. I had to make one
seam on the dash support bracket otherwise I was able to stretch the vinyl
to cover. My Mother stopped by one day when I was pulling my hair out trying to cover the fool thing. She told me to put a wet towel on the vinyl run a hot iron over it, then stretch the material. Worked like a champ, all right Mom!
This sewing stuff isn't as difficult as I thought it would be.
The vinyl is pretty easy to work with but VERY unforgiving in the
form of a gazillion little holes in the material that will not close
up if you need to undo anything. There is no such thing as cut the seam out
and try again. Did I mention keep you fingers away from the needle,
that thing could wreck your whole day.
I put binding posts in the corners of the pocket that extend through
the masonite backing board, seems like they should work out
just fine. I ironed out the seams in the pocket as well. The tape
on the top right is a marker for where to cut my door handle
hole.
