John "Ring Neck" Brewer m. Nan Venable

A Crouch Family Heritage Association Family Tree page

John "Ring Neck" Brewer, b. 1855 son of William Brewer and Elizabeth Cole, m. Nan Venable, b. Harrisonburg, Va.
John had a grist mill. Nan was noted for her kindness to her neighbors during hard times (which were frequent in Owsley Co., Ky.) as well as to her family.
Nan's family emigrated across the mountains from Va. to Ky. when she was very small. She told my grandmother-in-law, her granddaughter, that bears followed them for three days straight. During some episode in the Civil War, when she was still small, she was hidden in a hollow log.

Children:
Joe Brewer m. Mattie Jane Wilson

Joe and Chester were in WW1. The day of the Armistice, they met in Paris, and went off to Andorra for R&R.
