Divorce Reform Legislation Introduced In Texas House
Part of the Divorce Reform Page
I attended a press conference today announcing the introduction of
House Bill 323, which will repeal no-fault divorce in Texas. The bill is
sponsored by conservative Republicans Arlene Wohlgemuth (R-Burleson)
and Charlie Howard (R-Sugar Land), and liberal Democrats
Leticia Van De Putte (D-San Antonio) and Al Edwards (D-Houston).
Representative Glenn Lewis, an African-American Democrat from
Fort Worth, gave a moving speech in support of the bill. Our lobbying
affiliate, the Texas Family Association, will work to pass this legislation.

Family Association of Texas,

The bill was killed by a Republican in June, 1997. I am not familiar
with the details of how this was accomplished. -- JC
