Community Marriage Policies

A community marriage policy is where all the preachers of all faiths in
a city or area get together and say they won't marry anyone unless they
go through a rigorous program designed to give them skills for getting along,
to help prevent future problems that could lead to divorce, and to make
them think real hard about whether they should be marrying each other in
the first place. Over 100 cities have them; each policy is different and
is written by local clergy.
Marriage Savers reports that the counseling required by Community Marriage
Policies drastically reduces the divorce rate for people who undergo it.
It also leads 20% of couples to decide not to marry in the first place.
