The Crouch Family Heritage Association
Description and Statement of Purpose
The non-profit Crouch Family Heritage Association was formed in 1988 by
the heirs of Ralph Waldo Crouch to maintain the farm which has been in the
family for two centuries, to preserve buildings and landmarks connected
with the Crouch family, to preserve our ancestors' graves, and to strengthen
family members' sense of heritage and connection by arranging reunions and
newsletters and assisting genealogical, historical and archaeological research.
We are now restoring Jesse Crouch's two-story log farmhouse on Crouch Road
in Boone's Creek, just north of Johnson City, Tennessee. Jesse and his brothers,
who had first come to the Watauga country as patriot soldiers on their way
to rout the British and tories at King's Mountain, South Carolina, built
it between 1780 and 1794. We have taken the house apart and numbered each
piece, laid a stone foundation, straightened and rebuilt the limestone chimney
and fireplaces, and rebuilt the house. A shake roof is on, the chinking
and daubing are done, the flooring has been put back in, and now we need
to restore the interior paneling, the trim, windows and doors.
Our list of the Descendants of Jesse and
Mary Nance Crouch, who built the house, is available on the web or by
mail. It combines several sources, and covers four generations of Jesse
and Mary's descendants more completely than any previous genealogy.
