This transcription of persons with estate records at the North Carolina
Division of Archives and History was provided by Frank Bell of Raleigh, NC. Thanks Frank
for your generosity in sharing this data with us. Since he provided this list,
additional estate records up to the 1930s have been added, so BOX NUMBERS
SHOWN HEREIN ARE NO LONGER ACCURATE and these additional estates need to be
added to the list.
These estate records
contain estate accounts, administrator bonds, guardian bonds, summons and
many other miscellaneous documents. Some even have a list of heirs. Next
to a will (which are not included in these records, even though the person
listed may have died testate), estate records can be your best source to
establish relationships.
Each box of estate records is shown in a separate table.
The transcription includes the name of the deceased, the approximate date of
death, and any remarks. The records are generally arranged alphabetically, but
there are exceptions. For instance, a Chlaid estate is filed under S because
it is really Slade. My experience also shows that estate records
can contain records on more than one person by the same name, so don't rely
solely on the dates given.
These records are not, unfortunately, available on microfilm. The only source is the
original records at the North Carolina Division of Archives and History. You should
also be aware that this is not an all inclusive list of estate records for Tyrrell
County. The following records are also available which are not included herein:
List of Administrative Bonds (Oct. 1,1754-Dec.12,1754)
Miscellaneous Estates 1777-1789
Miscellaneous Estates 1849
Miscellaneous Administrators (deceased not named) no date 1743-1805
