In the name of God amen: I John Stubbs of Tyrrell County and State of North Carolina being of a sound disposing mind and memory blessed be God do this twenty fourth day of September one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.

First - I five unto my daughter Elizabeth Currell forty shillings State money.

Secondly - I give into my son Thomas Stubbs forty shillings State money.

Thirdly - I give and bequeath unto my son James Stubbs my two Plantations in Martin County on each side Cabbin Swamp one known by the name of Davises Neck also all my stock of cattle to be found in Martin County also one third of my hogs in Tyrrell County and also one mare bridle and saddle to him and his heirs forever.

Fourthly - I give unto my grand daughter Nancy Stubbs two young heifers together with their increase to her and her heirs forever.

Fifthly - I give unto my grand daughter Fanny Stubbs one young heifer together with her increase to her and her heirs forever.

Sixthly - I give unto my son Richard Stubbs one mare bridle and saddle.

Seventhly - I give unto my son William Stubbs all my stock of cattle in Tyrrell County except the three heifers already given.

Eightly - The remainder part of my Estate that is to say my Plantation houses and lands and negroe man and every thing I possess I desire shall be equally divided between my two sons Richard Stubbs and William Stubbs to them and their heirs forever.

Ninthly - If my two sons Richard and William should purchase a negroe woman named Charity out of My Estate which is now in my possession, belonging to William Patterson and her son David. My desire is that my son William should possess and forever enjoy the above said David and if the said negroe should have any child or children more then my desire is that my son James Stubbs shall possess and enjoy her first child, after remaining at her breast one year and after that to belong to my son Richard together with her increase to him and his heirs forever -

Lastly - I nominate constitute and appoint my sons Thomas Stubbs and Richard Stubbs Executors of this my last Will and Testament revoking all other Will or Wills by me heretofore made confirming this only to be my last Will and Testament In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and fix'd my seal the day and year above mentioned.
