In the name of God amen: October the 24th 1763 I Thomas Smith of Tyrrel County being very sick and weake in body but of perfict mind and menory thanks be given to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and first I give and recommend my soul into the hands God who gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in decent Christain burial at the duretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give demise and dispose of in the following manner and form.
Imprimis - I give unto my well beloved wife the use of my plantation and stock of cattle hogs and sheep and all my other Estate real and personal during her life.
Item - I give to my son Redick Smith the plantation and land belonging to it that I now dwell on but if the said Redick should die without ishew that the land shall be sold and the money to be eaqually divided among all the living children and also I constitute and ordain my wife Alice Smith Executrix to this my last Will and Testament and also John Executor Bass Cason t ye sd. Alice Smith.
