A Seven-Point Plan To Defeat Terrorism

TERRORISM is "the systematic use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective." Source: Britannica.com

Terrorism is the worst possible crime against any civilized society, impossible to justify by any reasonable standard of morality. Therefore all legitimate governments should be willing to unite against terrorism worldwide. Any government which supports terrorism is illegitimate and should be replaced.

Here is the outline of a general, seven-point plan to defeat terrorism throughout the world. The details need to be determined for each particular situation, but the outline can remain the same.

1. Attack its underlying moral and religious theories.

The moral and religious theories which support terrorism are quite faulty and erroneous. They need to be identified and attacked. If the terrorist loses faith in the righteousness of his acts, he is less likely to perform them.

2. Eliminate the legitimate grievances of the terrorists.

In every case of terrorism, we will find some kind of legitimate underlying grievance. If we eliminate the legitimate grievances, we have removed the fuel, and the terrorism will sputter out and die.

3. Severely punish any government which supports terrorism.

If all governments are hostile to all terrorists, terrorism will have no safe havens from which to operate.

4. Cut off the flow of money to terrorists.

Terrorism depends on a flow of money to survive.

5. Disrupt terrorist plans and activities.

Official agencies can infiltrate terrorist organizations, intercept terrorist communications, detain suspected terrorists at key moments. Individual citizens can wrestle hijackers to the ground and directly disrupt any other terrorist activities they may encounter.

6. Vigorously investigate and prosecute individual terrorists.

Terrorism is the worst possible crime against any civilized society. The punishment should fit the crime.

7. Pay big rewards immediately for information about terrorist activities.

We should establish a system for paying large, immediate cash rewards for information about terrorist activities. This way, we can obtain the services of millions of free-lance informants. Also, such a program would be a great deterrent, because any potential terrorist would never know who might be ready to turn him in for cash.
