        ARE U.S. NUCLEAR MISSILES ALREADY AIMED AT MECCA AND MEDINA?
                                      
   There is speculation in some quarters that perhaps U.S. nuclear
   missiles are now aimed at Mecca and Medina, the two most important
   cities in the Islamic world.
   
   During the cold war between the U.S. and the former Soviet Union, each
   side had targeted all the major cities of the other side, and it was
   understood by everyone that each side had the capability to utterly
   destroy the other with these nuclear missiles. Wiser heads prevailed,
   thanks to God, and the cold war ended without nuclear destruction.
   
   Mecca and Medina are both easy targets for U.S. Intercontinental
   Ballistic Missiles, against which there is no defense. Indeed, the
   entire Moslem world could easily be destroyed by such missiles. If it
   chose to do so, the U.S. could even use Neutron bombs, killing all the
   people but leaving the oil fields intact. Some right-wing factions in
   the U.S. might even feel that this is a reasonable idea, if anti-U.S.
   terrorism continues.
   
   But why would the U.S. government ever choose to target Mecca and
   Medina? What good would it do to embark on such a reckless course of
   action?
   
   I don't know. Perhaps it would encourage the government of Saudi
   Arabia to exert some control over the terrorists now at work in the
   U.S. and Europe. Surely these terrorist madmen could be restrained if
   the Saudi Arabians truly desired it, just as Israeli terrorism against
   the Palestinians could be restrained if the U.S. truly desired it.
