Bill McGinnis Link to copy => http://www.loveallpeople.org/chapellinks.html The Great Commandment Jesus was asked to state the greatest commandment in the law of God. He selected two commandments from the Old Testament, and He expanded the definition of "neighbor" to include all people, not just other Jews. Then he combined them into what is now known as "The Great Commandment," which can be simply stated as "Love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself." If we recognize that everyone is our neighbor and that God accepts our love for others as if it were love for Himself, we can then restate the result as "God's basic law for all Mankind," which is "LOVE ALL PEOPLE AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF." LEVITICUS 19:18 (RSV) You shall not take vengeance or bear any grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD. MARK 12:28-31 (RSV) 28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the first of all?" 29 Jesus answered, "The first is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one; 30 and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' 31 The second is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." MATTHEW 22:34-40 (RSV) 34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sad'ducees, they came together. 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, to test him. 36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" 37 And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets." http://www.LoveAllPeople.org
