HOW TO SUBSCRIBE

Please be aware that subscribing to deafintl requires TWO STEPS. First, you must submit your request by the web or by email. Second, you will receive an email that asks you to "confirm" your request. You MUST reply to this email in order to complete the subscription process.

If you are reading this on the web, the easiest way for you to subscribe to deafintl is probably via the web at http://www.waste.org/mail/deafintl

You can also, of course, subscribe via e-mail. First decide whether you want to subscribe to the regular version or to the digest version of deafintl.

"Regular" and "Digest" deafintl--what's the difference?

In the regular version of deafintl, you will receive each post as soon as it is distributed to the list. That means you might receive several individual e-mail messages throughout each day. In the digest version, all deafintl posts are saved for you every day and consolidated (put together) into one long post. That means that you will receive one longer e-mail message each day (with everyone's posts from that day included). The daily deafintl digest is distributed at approximately 2 a.m. EST (that's late at night in the American continents, morning in Europe and Africa, and about mid day or early afternoon in Asia).

Subscribing to the "regular" version of deafintl

ALL subscription commands are sent via e-mail to waste@waste.org. If you want to subscribe to the REGULAR version of deafintl (several short messages throughout the day), e-mail the following command in the BODY of your message:

subscribe deafintl your@e-mail.com

(substitute your actual e-mail address for "your@e-mail.com" above).

Subscribing to the "digest" version of deafintl

If you want to subscribe to the DIGEST version of deafintl (one long, consolidated message each day), e-mail the following command in the BODY of your message to waste@waste.org:

subscribe deafintl-digest your@e-mail.com

(substitute your actual e-mail address for "your@e-mail.com" above).

Wait! You're not done yet!

After you e-mail your command to waste@waste.org, the waste@waste.org computer will automatically send you an e-mail message asking you to "authenticate" (confirm) your subscription request. Follow the instructions in the message you receive to finish subscribing yourself to deafintl. You will soon receive a copy of the listcharter/welcome message for deafintl. Congratulations! You are now a deafintl listmember!

Switching between "regular" and "digest" deafintl

If you are already subscribed to the "regular" version of deafintl but you want to switch to the "digest" version then you need to unsubscribe from the regular version (use this command: unsubscribe deafintl) and subscribe to the digest version (use this command: subscribe deafintl-digest).

If you are already subscribed to the "digest" version of deafintl but you want to switch to the "regular" version then you need to unsubscribe from the digest version (use this command: unsubscribe deafintl-digest) and subscribe to the regular version (use this command: subscribe deafintl). There is no way to do this in one step; however, you can submit both commands in the same e-mail message if you put each command on a separate line.

A few helpful tips
OR: Help! I tried to subscribe but it didn't work!

  1. Remember to put all commands in the BODY of your e-mail. Commands will NOT WORK in the subject line.

  2. Commands need to be e-mailed to waste@waste.org. Do not get this e-mail address mixed up with the addresses used for posting to the list (deafintl@waste.org) or contacting listowners (owner-deafintl@waste.org)! See the page on How E-mail Discussion Lists Work if you need more information on these various e-mail addresses.

  3. waste@waste.org is a computer--NO HUMAN BEING reads the e-mail sent to waste@waste.org. That means you need to send commands in exactly the format shown in the instructions above, except for appropriate substitutions, or they won't work.

  4. Remember that there are two steps in subscribing to deafintl. First you need to send your subscribe command to waste@waste.org. Next, you will automatically receive an e-mail message asking you to "authenticate" (confirm) your subscription request. You need to follow the instructions in the e-mail you receive to finish subscribing yourself to deafintl.

  5. When you succeed in subscribing yourself to deafintl, you will automatically receive an e-mail with the listcharter and welcome message for deafintl. If you have not yet received the listcharter then you have not yet been subscribed to deafintl. Either re-read the instructions above to figure out what might have gone wrong or please feel free to contact a listowner for help at owner-deafintl@waste.org.

  6. If you have any problems, please contact one of the listowners. That's what we're here for!

  7. If any of these instructions were not clear for you then I'd like to know. I want to improve them and make life a little easier for the next person trying to subscribe to deafintl. Please share your feedback with me.
