Welcome to the Deaf Empowerment and Advancement Fellowship INTernational List (DEAFINTL)! Deafintl is a FREE discussion group that takes place in e-mail. Through deafintl, subscribers can network with each other and exchange information, ideas, resources, insights, advice, opinions, news, and feedback related to improving the lives of deaf and hard of hearing people in developing nations. Deafintl is FREE. You do NOT have to pay anything to join.

Subscribing (Joining deafintl) and Unsubscribing (leaving)

Want to subscribe or unsubscribe to deafintl? The easiest way to do either is via the web at http://waste.org/mail/deafintl. Or, you may choose to subscribe (join) or unsubscribe (leave) via e-mail. Either way, deafintl is FREE. You pay NOTHING to join, and you are welcome to leave at any time you like.

What is deafintl?

Want to know more about us? You may want to begin with the About DEAFINTL page and the "who we are" page. The deafintl policies page includes information on our posting guidelines; these can tell you more about what topics are appropriate to discuss on deafintl. You can also browse through the deafintl archives to see what has been discussed on deafintl in the past. The web-based archives has a key-word search engine and can be organized by your choice of date, author, or discussion thread.

Are you confused about what an e-mail discussion list is or how it works? See the page on How E-mail Discussion Lists Work.

Are You A New Deafintl Member?

You are encouraged to be familiar with basic "netiquette" (etiquette for the Internet) before you make your first post to deafintl. New members are also encouraged to be familiar with general list policy, including our language policy, moderation policy, and what topics are and are not appropriate to deafintl.

You may also want to browse through the deafintl archives at http://waste.org/mail/deafintl to catch up with old deafintl discussion that happened before you joined the list.

The structure of this list

This list has three listowners--Andrea Shettle, Jen, and Kara Harkins. Andrea Shettle, as originator of this list, is currently the primary listowner. You may contact us at any time if you have questions, concerns, or confusion related to deafintl. Also feel free to contact us in the case of technical problems, for example, if you are having trouble subscribing (joining) or unsubscribing to the list.

This list is unmoderated in the sense that subscribers are able to post directly to deafintl without going through a moderator for approval. However, this list does have some guidelines about what topics are and are not appropriate. One of the listowners will intervene in the case of excess off-topic discussion, flame wars, or other problems.

When you receive the deafintl welcome message/list charter, you are encouraged to keep it. Among other things, the welcome message includes information on how to unsubscribe yourself from the list in case you need to know that information later on. If you are not able to keep a copy of the welcome message, please read it, write down any important information, and keep it in a place where it won't get lost. This is a good habit to have when subscribing to any e-mail discussion list.

Posting instructions

To make a POST to this list (i.e., to send e-mail to be distributed to all the other list members), please send your e-mail to:

deafintl@waste.org

If you have any problems posting to deafintl, or if you're not yet sure you understand what you need to do, please see the page on Posting To Deafintl for some helpful tips. Also please feel free to contact a listowner for help.

Other Mailing Lists

Deafintl subscribers may also want to join a listserver called "PRD-L" (Poverty Reduction and Disability). PRD-L is devoted to discussion related to poverty reduction for people with disabilities in developing countries. You can join PRD-L via the web at:

http://lists.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/prd-l

You may also contact the PRD-L listowner, Patrick Burke, at:

burke@ucla.edu

If you can read Spanish, and have an interest in human rights issues, then you might also be interested in a Spanish listserver on disability and human rights. For more information, contact:

discapacidadyderechoshumanos-owner@gruposyahoo.com

Like deafintl, both of the above mailing lists are FREE. You do NOT need to pay anything to join.

If you are looking for a job, or a scholarship, or for opportunities to travel abroad, or for funding that you can use to support your project in a developing country, you might be interested in a news broadcast list called "Intl-Dev." To join Intl-Dev, contact the listowner, Amy Wilson, at:

amy.wilson@gallaudet.edu
