______________RLP March 1632 Orders _________________

Name: Rene LaPorte (RLP)

SL 5

Rene is SL5. He needs 3 x the next level, or 18 status points, to become SL6. If either Maria or toadying works out for him, he will make it easily this month.

Concon: Yes -5cr +1sp

Conspicuous Consumption, 1x SL in crowns for an extra SP.

Anytime: repay loan plus interest to shylocks -110cr

Debts: Outstanding loans to the character need to be paid by the month in which the debts come due.

Impromptu Duels:

A fairly frequent occurrence, as characters may meet a regimental enemy at a club or party or find another suitor on their mistress's doorstep. Each character must indicate if he will offer/accept all duels with cause, for whom he will withdraw, and at what point he will offer surrender, should he be wounded.

-Offer/Accept all challenges.

Rene's orders indicate he will offer and accept all impromptu duels with cause.

-Withdraw only for higher officer of same or friendly regiment.

If the circumstances are such that he would end up fighting someone from his regiment or a friendly regiment, he has indicated that he will withdraw (i.e. not offer a challenge) if the officer is of higher rank. He could have a problem, though, if the other officer is the same or lower rank and not inclined to withdraw gracefully.

-Surrender at half End.

This indicates the conditions under which he will offer his surrender to an opponent.

-No surrender offered to or accepted from Philippe du Savinion.

Ahh, there are some bad feelings here! Rene has indicated he will, if possible, slay poor du Savinion rather than accept any surrender from him. Similarly, he would rather die than offer his surrender to the fellow. One wonders what has happened to warrant this degree of hatred? Was a heart broken? Money lost? Accusations falsely made? A reputation sullied? The possibilities are endless.

WEEK 1: Court Maria (SL9), +1 modifier, -54cr. Bring Maria a gift of a mirror in a gilt frame.

If Rene is successful courting Maria, he will gain 5 status points: 1 for having a mistress, plus the difference in SL between the mistress and the character (if hers is higher). She is SL9, he is SL5 -- that's a difference of 4. 4 + 1 = 5.

The basic cost of courting a mistress is 3x her SL. That's 27 in this case. Rene is trying to better his chances, so he bought more than the minimum in gifts, etc. by spending another 3x her SL for a +1 modifier. According to the Mistress Courting table, he needs a 4 or greater on 1d6. With the modifier it will be 3 or greater. Regardless of success or failure, his money is spent.

If successful in courting, his female companionship requirement is considered to be fulfilled for this month.

Details, such as the gift that was given to the mistress, are very much encouraged.

WEEK 2: If successfully wooed Maria, then go to Frog and Peach w/ Maria and carouse, else go to Frog and Peach alone and carouse, grumbling about the fickleness of women.

Rene has two possibilities. If he won Maria's hand in week 1, then the two of them are going to his club. He has elected to carouse. He must purchase refreshments for his mistress. The cost for his and her carousing is their SL in CRs. That is 9 CRs for her and 5 CRs for him = 14. If he was unlucky in love, he's going to drown his sorrows at the club, for a cost of 5 CRs. Either way he earns 1 SP for carousing.

WEEK 3: Attend Xavier Fromage's party at Bothwells with Maria, toady to Pierre du Chavier(SL10). Discuss the current campaign against the Spanish, outlining a few ideas for siege engines.

Our hero attends a gala event at Bothwells. The host, Xavier Fromage, has presumably issued an invitation (in the announcements last month) that includes Rene. If it does not, then, if Xavier has hired bouncers, Rene has a problem. If Rene was not invited, and there are no bouncers, he can crash the party. Assuming he does have an invitation or is able to crash the party, he receives SPs for being in a club that is above his normal station. The highest-ranked club that he can belong to, based on his SL of 5, is club number 2, The Frog and Peach. Bothwells is number 6. Rene receives status points equal to the difference, or 4. Plus he has, presumably, arranged to toady to his social better. The better, in this case M. Chavier, is SL10. Rene then gets status points equal to the difference in SL divided by 2. That is 10 - 5 = 5. 5/ 2 = 3 (rounded up). Plus he is carousing again, for 1 SP. The total is 4 for the club difference, 3 for toadying, and 1 for carousing = 8 SP. All this and a party, too!

Please note that if M. Chavier's orders do not state that he will attend the same party, or if they do not indicate that he will allow Rene to toady, then Rene would only get points for the club and carousing, totaling 5 SP.

WEEKEND 3: Attend theater. If play was a success, send a note of congratulations backstage. If not, leave before the curtain call.

Rene has a weekend activity in Week 3, too; he is going to the theater. The cost for attendance is 3x his SL, or 15 CRs. He will earn 1 SP for the show. Note that if he attended on opening night on the first weekend, his return could be greater or less depending on the success of the play, and his cost would be 6x his SL.

WEEK 4: If failed in week 1, visit Bawdyhouse and carouse or else else Practice in barracks w/ Regimental weapon

If Rene failed to win Maria's hand, then he will visit the bawdyhouse. He will seek female companionship, which costs CRs equal to his SL, and he must carouse (required at the bawdyhouse) for an additional CRs equal to his SL. That's 5 + 5 = 10 CRs. He will get 1 SP for carousing.

If Rene had already satisfied the female companionship requirement, then he will practice in his barracks with his regimental weapon (in the case of the Picardy Mesketeers, the rapier). This costs nothing. If he were to practice with any weapon other than the regimental weapon, he would have to hire a teacher, for a cost of CRs equal to his Expertise level. Once he completes four practice sessions with the same weapon, his Exp for that weapon, and that weapon only, will go up 1.

Dueling sequence, Rene LaPorte
(CL-K-X-X-X)(X-S)(X-X-S)(X-L-X)(CL-K-X-X-X)(L-X-X-C-X-X-X)(X-S)

Kick, Slash, Slash, Lunge, Kick, Furious Lunge, Slash

This is the sequence of moves that the character will perform if a duel happens. It may be as long or short as you desire. If during a duel I reach the end of the sequence, I will begin again at the top, and continue until a winner is determined.

You may change your sequence as often as you like. You may submit specific sequences for specific weapons. Please just try to be clear about what you are doing, and under what circumstances you are doing it. If I can't figure it out I'll let you know.

ORDERS WHILE ON CAMPAIGN

While on campaign, a character's orders are somewhat different. The same character information should be supplied. Most costs are waived while on campaign, however. The only things characters are required to pay for are their mistress/wife support and rent for their lodgings.

No "weekly" activites are possible while on campaign. "Weekend" activities may be performed by taking weekend leave and returning to Paris. "Anytime" actions may be performed through agents -- for example, a character may borrow or repay loans while on campaign.
